ELECTRICALUPGRADES

Power Your Modern Home Without Compromising Safety.

Today's homes run on more power than ever—EV chargers, heat pumps, induction ranges, and home offices pulling constant load. If your electrical system was designed for a different era, it wasn't built for any of this. Running modern appliances on outdated wiring and undersized panels isn't just inconvenient. It's a safety risk.

Loch Monster Electric helps Twin Cities homeowners upgrade their electrical systems to meet the demands of modern life—and the code requirements that come with it. Whether you need a panel that can actually handle your load, whole-home rewiring that brings everything up to current standards, or surge protection that keeps your equipment safe, we do the job right and make sure it passes inspection.

Electrical Panel Upgrade

ELECTRICAL PANEL UPGRADE

Outdated or undersized panel? We'll size it right and bring it fully up to code.

If an inspector, your insurance company, or your own breaker panel has been telling you something's wrong, it probably is. Outdated panels—especially older fuse boxes and undersized 100-amp services—weren't designed for the way homes run today. Adding an EV charger, a heat pump, or even a home office can push them past their limit.

Loch Monster Electric replaces worn-out panels with modern, code-compliant equipment sized for your home's current and future demands. Our licensed electricians walk you through the assessment, the scope of work, and the price upfront—so there are no surprises on the day of the job.

Whole-Home Rewiring

WHOLE-HOME REWIRING

Old wiring is a real safety risk. We replace it safely—room by room or all at once.

Old wiring doesn't announce itself until it causes a problem—and by then, the risk has been there for years. Aluminum wiring, cloth-insulated wire, and aging copper all degrade over time in ways that create real fire and safety hazards. If your home was built before the 1980s and hasn't been rewired, it's worth knowing what you're working with.

We assess your home's wiring, explain exactly what we find, and replace what needs replacing—safely, cleanly, and up to current code. Whether you want to tackle one room at a time or rewire the whole house in one go, we'll build a plan that works for your timeline and budget.

Surge Protection

SURGE PROTECTION

Protect everything in your home from voltage spikes—before the next surge does the damage.

Power surges can happen from lightning strikes or every time a large appliance cycles on and off, and they add up over time, quietly degrading your electronics and shortening the life of your equipment. A whole-home surge protector installed at your panel stops voltage spikes before they reach a single outlet in your house.

It's one of the most cost-effective upgrades you can add to a panel replacement or rewiring project, and one of the easiest to overlook until it's too late. We install whole-home surge protection as part of any electrical upgrade, or on its own if you want to protect your home without a larger project.

Breakers that trip frequently, a fuse box instead of a breaker panel, a panel that is 25 to 30 years old, or a panel that cannot support the loads you need are all signs. If you are adding an EV charger, a hot tub, a home addition, or a major appliance, a panel that was fine yesterday may not be adequate for tomorrow.

We pull the permit, schedule the utility disconnect, swap out the existing panel for a properly sized modern one, reconnect all circuits, and coordinate the inspection. Most residential panel upgrades are completed in a day. You will be without power for a portion of that time, but we plan around it and let you know exactly what to expect.

Most older homes came with 100-amp service, which was adequate for the loads at the time. Today, with EV chargers, larger HVAC systems, home offices, and more, 200-amp is the standard for most homes. Larger homes or those with significant electrical demands may need 400-amp service. We run a load calculation and give you the right answer for your specific home.

It depends on what is in your walls. A new panel does nothing for knob-and-tube or aluminum wiring that is no longer safe or code-compliant. In some older homes in Minneapolis and St. Paul, the wiring itself is the issue, not the panel. We assess both and give you an honest answer about what actually needs to be replaced.

No. Plug-in surge protectors only protect what is plugged into them and offer limited protection. A whole-home surge protector installs at the panel and protects all circuits, including your HVAC, appliances, and anything hardwired into the home. For anything with a circuit board, whole-home protection is worth it.

Yes, and it makes the home easier to sell. Buyers and inspectors flag outdated panels, fuse boxes, and aluminum wiring immediately. A modern 200-amp panel with a clean breaker layout removes one of the most common items on a pre-sale electrical inspection list.
